Teaching and Learning Envrionment

Our goal is to give students the knowledge to be confident in their chosen careers in the real estate or construction industries, and to make our programmes truly international and globally competitive, enabling our students to pursue careers in South Africa and beyond.

The Academic Development Unit (ADU) in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment is there to help students who feel that they are in danger of jeopardizing their studies by struggling in one or two subjects. The ADU can assist with extra tutorials in those subjects you need help with.

Student Involvement in Research

Students are involved in research at both postgraduate and Honours levels through assignments, research projects and discourses. Our close links with industry also provide opportunities for work-placements to individual students. Some of these placements allow students to acquire useful industrial experience during the vacation period.

Student Practical Assessments

Construction Studies

Students do a community project and undertake visits to construction facilities and exhibitions to gain competence and skills vital to the built environment workplace. Field trips are organised to enable students to visit physical sites and places to connect academic concepts to practice.

Property Studies

A cross-section of real estate firms and development projects are visited. During the rest of your studies, you will be involved in different projects in Econometric analysis of real estate problems, Property Management, Valuation of residential and commercial buildings.

Virtual Learning Support

All of our teaching is supported by a virtual learning environment known as SAKAI. All students are registered on the virtual teaching and learning platform (SAKAI) where they have access to course information, timetables, personal information and communication links to lecturers delivering the course.
