Fostering graduates to be leaders with integrity

The 21stcentury is a time of rapid change. New information is being generated on an unprecedented scale and at an astounding rate. The world of work is changing rapidly. The days when a school leaver could expect to do the same job for life are gone. Today’s graduates will have many careers – not just many jobs, but many careers – in their lifetime.

They will also need to use a variety of applied competencies as they move from one job and one career to the next. These include: critical and creative thinking, the ability to work collaboratively with other people, and, above all, their ability as life-long learners.

At Wits we stimulate debate and cultivate open-mindedness, critical thinking, creativity, ethics and a strong sense of social responsibility through a variety of learning experiences designed to promote meaningful student learning. Click on the boxes below to find information or get support.

Online resources ulwazi, Wits’ Learning Management System, supports online learning and teaching. It uses the cloud-based Canvas platform. Wits also provides other online resources to support anytime, anywhere learning.

Academic professional learning University teaching is a profession. Like every profession, it requires specialised applied competencies, which need to be continuously updated and expanded.

Curriculum development Curriculum is at the heart of the academic project. Wits academics keep abreast of new developments in their own field of specialisation as well as in learning and teaching to ensure that Wits offers world-class academic programmes.
CLTD The Centre for Learning, Teaching, and Development (CLTD) offers services to support academics in their professional learning. Workshops are offered throughout the year on a range of topics related to university teaching and student learning.

Quality and Academic Planning The Quality and Academic Planning Office (QAPO) plays a coordinating and supporting role in quality assurance and is the custodian of quality assurance activities at Wits.

Student support and development Wits takes a holistic approach to curricular and co-curricular learning and to student wellness. As a Wits student, you have access to many forms of support to help you achieve your personal and professional development goals.
