Architecture and Planning Architecture, design and planning are the focus of the School. Through its teaching, research, creative work, community engagement and public debate, the School has a large and positive influence on society. Our location in Joburg gives students and researchers an ‘urban laboratory’.
Civil and Environmental Engineering A primary focus for civil engineers is the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of physical infrastructure – facilities that include water and waste management facilities; transportation and communications; structures and public buildings.
Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering Home to the NRF/DST Centre of Excellence in Strong Materials, six research chairs and a number of research entities, the School boasts a strong research profile. Leading edge research activities span a range of areas in chemical, metallurgical and materials engineering.
Construction Economics and Management The School offers undergraduate, honours and postgraduate degrees in the professional disciplines of construction management, quantity surveying, project management and real estate/property. The School is involved in a wide range of research activities.
Electrical and Information Engineering Graduates of the Wits School of Electrical and Information Engineering work in diverse industries and conduct research in a broad range of areas. The School has awarded electrical engineering degrees for nearly 100 years, and our educational programmes have always been cutting edge.
Mechanical, Industrial and Aeronautical Engineering The School produces world class engineers and has been at the forefront of engineering in South Africa for just over a hundred years. In addition, there are a number of prestigious research centres, units and groups operating at national level, that are hosted by the School.
