Marketing
-
Where people, brands and markets meet
Marketing is more than advertising, it is the study of people, markets and the forces that shape how value is created and exchanged. At Wits, the Marketing Division explores the relationship between consumers, brands and organisations within an increasingly digital and interconnected marketplace.
Our objective is understanding how people think, behave and make decisions, and thereafter how organisations can use these insights to build meaningful connections and create lasting value. From consumer behaviour and brand strategy to digital marketing, market research and sustainable consumption, our curriculum reflects the evolving challenges and opportunities faced by modern businesses. We look beyond traditional marketing to understand the social, cultural, technological and economic forces that influence contemporary markets.
Beyond the Classroom:
Situated in Johannesburg, a vibrant, multi-cultural marketplace where global brand strategies meet diverse, fast-moving African consumers, students are exposed to real-life brand challenges and industry perspectives, preparing them to navigate complex markets. Wits graduates step into the workforce as strategic and creative thinkers, equipped to translate consumer insights into impactful marketing strategies across industries, markets and borders.

Where people, technology and businesses connect
Technology doesn’t exist in a vacuum; it powers modern trade, drives digital transformation and underpins Africa's rapidly expanding digital economy. At Wits, the Information Systems Division explores the relationship between people, technology and organisations. Our objective is understanding how information and digital systems can transform the way we work, make decisions and create value. From AI integration and cybersecurity governance to enterprise systems and cloud architecture, our curriculum reflects the live challenges faced by modern-day corporate sectors. It is important to note that we look beyond technology itself to understand how systems are designed, adopted and used within our society.
Beyond the Classroom:
Situated in Africa’s economic powerhouse, our location offers students direct immersion into a city housing the head offices of pan-African telecommunications giants, global technology hubs and universally recognised banking institutions.
Wits graduates step into the workforce as forward-thinking individuals who are capable of engineering scalable digital solutions or launching high-growth technology ventures.
Insurance and Risk Management
-
Understanding risks, whilst building resilience
Risk is an inherent part of every decision; it influences businesses, financial markets and the daily lives of individuals and communities. At Wits, the Insurance and Risk Management Division explores how organisations and society can understand, assess and respond to uncertainty. Our objective is developing the analytical and strategic thinking required to make informed decisions in an increasingly complex risk-environment. From insurance and enterprise risk to financial risk, risk modelling and specialised insurance markets, our curriculum reflects the challenges facing modern financial and corporate sectors. Our programmes look beyond individual risks to understand the broader economic, technological and social forces that influence resilience and decision-making.
Beyond the Classroom:
Situated in one of Africa's leading financial centres, Wits places students within an environment shaped by major financial institutions, insurers and diverse corporate sectors. Wits graduates step into the workforce as analytical and adaptable professionals, equipped to identify emerging risks, develop informed solutions and navigate uncertainty across the financial services industry and beyond.
Human Resource Management

Where human behaviour meets organisational impact
People are at the heart of every organisation; they shape its culture, drive its performance and influence its ability to adapt. At Wits, the Human Resource Management & Management Division explores the relationship between people, organisations and the changing world of work. Our objective is understanding how organisations can develop their people and in turn build effective workplaces and navigate complex organisational challenges. From organisational behaviour, leadership, development and strategy to talent management and employee relations, our curriculum reflects the evolving realities of modern workplaces. At Wits we explore beyond traditional human resource management to examine the behavioural, strategic and social forces that shape how organisations function and how people experience work.
