Student Services

The Wits Education Campus offers a number of facilities for undergraduate and postgraduate students. These include:

The Education Library (Harold Holmes Library)

The Education Library is situated on the Education Campus in Parktown, 27 St Andrews Road, and supports the teaching, learning and research of the School of Education, in the Faculty of Humanities. It serves primarily the needs of teachers and students of education.

The Peer Support Centre

The Peer Support Centre is staffed by third and fourth year students who have been specially trained to assist first year students with the social, academic and emotional demands of adapting to university life. Peer Supporters are available to listen, advise and see that students are guided to the appropriate resources for their needs.

The WSoE Writing Centre (WSoEWC)

The Wits School of Education Writing Centre has become a specialised centre for student support in academic writing, in the field of Education. Senior students have been trained as mentors to work with undergraduate and postgraduate students to develop their academic writing confidence and proficiency. Students have access to a variety of writing centre activities.

We also offer computer laboratories (with facilities for printing) for undergraduate and postgraduate students.

General Support Services


The Office of Residence Life, on the ground floor of Solomon Mahlangu House, is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the University's residence programme, including accommodation and meals, and the provision of recreational facilities and programmes for the improved academic performance and the holistic development of students within a residential environment. The office is also responsible for limited staff and visitor accommodation, as well as conference information.

Campus Health

The Campus Health & Wellness Centre (CHWC) offers a wide variety of health services to Wits students and staff members. The services are convenient, accessible, caring and cost-effective.

The CHWC is a registered professional medical practice. All its patients' records are therefore confidential. Information regarding a patient will only be released with the written permission from the patient, if court ordered or in the case of threatening illness.

Counselling and Careers Development Unit

CCDU provides services in Career Services, Therapy Services, HIV/AIDS Education and Support services, Sexual Harassment, Peer Counselling Service, Learn for Life, Graduate Recruitment and University Student Employment.

Disability Rights Unit

As a University we are committed to working towards the goal of creating an accessible and welcoming environment for all students with disabilities. The University endeavours to make the learning environment a rich and rewarding one and continually strives to improve all aspects of accessibility – physically, technologically and socially. Financial Aid

The Financial Aid and Scholarship Office(FASO) at Wits University is committed to helping you find options to finance your education. As your excitement about attending university starts to build, some serious questions need to be answered about how you are going to pay for your educational costs. The Financial Aid and Scholarship office provides information about other funding sources, expected costs and strategies for balancing your budget.

International Office

The Wits International Office (WIO) is strategically positioned to lead and facilitate all internationalisation facets of the university. To mention a few, these range from attracting and recruiting international students and providing relevant services to them, facilitating the internationalisation strategy of the University, building and maintaining the University"s international partnerships and collaborations and receiving international visitors/delegations.

Student Affairs

The Student Affairs Division strives to be an innovative contributor to a vibrant university community through the holistic development of students to enable students to succeed academically as socially resposible citizens.  The Division’s programmes are aimed at enhancing student success, student learning and the overall quality of campus-life for students in a student centered environment.

Development and Leadership Unit

The Development and Leadership Unit provides administrative, training and development support to the Student Representative Council (SRC) and its clubs and societies. The DLU creates an environment that is enabling and empowering, and one that allows the space for constructive debate and critical enquiry for the benefit of the students.  The DLU further contributes to creating a unique out-of-classroom environment in order to maximise the opportunities for student personal growth and intense self discovery through exciting and challenging co-curricular activities and student leadership training. Outdoor programmes based on Adventure Experiential Related Learning are also offered.

Wits Inter Campus Bus Timetables

The Inter Campus Bus Service provides transportation for Wits registered students of the University of the Witwatersrand between the various Wits campuses during the day and transportation for Wits registered students that are residing in a Wits Residence that is managed by Wits Campus Housing and Residence Life only. Wits Writing Centre

The Wits Writing Centre is for anyone at Wits who wants to work on their writing: for those who already write well and for those who would like to write even better. In all cases you, the writer, make the decisions and direct the writing.
