Wits Profs Kurt Sartorius and Wayne Van Zijl are set to paddle 1100km down the Amazon's Madeira River to raise awareness and funding to combat climate change

On Friday 1 July 2022, 73-year-old senior accounting professor at Wits, Kurt Sartorius, his son Benn and associate professor Wayne van Zijl will embark on a month-long expedition to the Amazon Rainforest and will paddle 1 100km down the Rio Madeira, a southern tributary of the great Amazon River.

The aim behind the expedition is to create a long-term accountancy SA climate change initiative by inspiring the commitment of corporate SA to fund a reforestation project in the Brazilian Amazon as well as pioneer a new genre of climate reporting in integrated annual reports.

The Wits School of Accountancy in partnership with SAICA would like to invite you to
an online webinar in which the details of this expedition are outlined and the
importance of this climate change initiative is highlighted.
