What a wonderful surprise it was to hear from you. I was over the moon to receive your letter and your most generous donation. Wits is truly blessed to have such wonderfully supportive alumni as yourself.

Dear Peter Maher,

It is very kind of you to send me a 93rd birthday card, quite unexpected. The universities like Wits (and of Toronto) have of recent years done what American Universities have done for years. They are talking to staff and students and telling them they are doing a good job. In Toronto the administration has found their many wealthy alumni were just waiting to be appreciated. One family has almost now made a hobby of enduring Professorships.

I have 3 degrees from Wits: BSc; MBBch; MD (Research by Thesis) Harvard MPH (cum laude) Rockerfeller fellowship. Friends in SA have submitted my biography to WiRi report. I do not know how to use the computer; I could not see the first screen properly. Too shot sighted.
Wits fight a great battle to maintain its position as the greatest University in Africa. It is sad to see how many Universities in other African countries have deteriorated. The British tried to establish good foundation. But apparently it did not work.

I like your book reviews in Wits Review but I cannot locate the exact address of Witwatersrand University Press, as I would like to order a book or two. I am sending a cheque for $500for Wits
