This is the opening item in Issue 2019 (2016) of the LINK Centre journal, The African Journal of Information and Communication (AJIC), a Thematic Issue on Knowledge Governance for Development. Written by the two Guest Editors of the issue, this article provides framing for the rest of the contributions, through exploring conceptions of development, knowledge, and knowledge governance.
