Wits Writing Programme Webinar: Writing Across Disciplines: Strategies for Deepening Learning
How do we improve the quality of learning online? How do we try to ensure deep student engagement? Writing Intensive (WI) courses, as with other courses at Wits, have struggled with the unexpected and often devastating effects on learning created by the pandemic. However, the WI approach offers strategies to address the issue of quality, through a scaffolded learning of specific critical thinking skills, and through the continuous practice and reflection on ways of thinking and communicating made possible by the addition of Writing Fellow (WF) tutors.
In this webinar, 5 WI lecturers and their WF tutors, representing each Faculty, will present a strategy or aspect of their course which illustrates one or more of the aims of WI courses. Presenters include: Professor Pamela Nichols (WWP); Professor Margaret Archibald (Mathematics); Dr Nosipho Mngomeuzulu and Ms Leyya Hoosen (Anthrolopology); Mr Stephen Pentz with Simphiwe Bala and Ntsako Mphahlani (Health Sciences); Ms Jean Moore (Law); Ms Bontle Tladi (Industrial Engineering). There will be 30 minutes for comments and questions.
