Lightning & Earthing

Hands on experience on the latest techniques of Lightning Protection & Earthing Practices

21 April – 23 April, 2020 @ University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg

Course Overview

This course will comprehensively cover all aspects of lightning protection, earthing and bonding including protection of buildings, surge protection of LV and signal systems, risk assessment and human safety. The course has been designed to provide a thorough insight into the subject, with special attention to the latest developments and updating of international / South African standards. Once the delegates are familiar with the background of each theme, and computation of the risk level, they will be guided to master the techniques to design and install if air termination system for a complex building. Including systems of down conductors; tailor-made earthing systems; bonding and shielding systems; other critical concerns for high-risk installations. The course is more fitting to the participants who seek engineering solutions to their practical issues rather than who expect deep theoretical knowledge, although such could be taken upon request. For each theme covered, several case studies are presented with detailed analysis to emphasize the significant engineering concerns.
