Divisions: Paediatric Surgery
Overview
Paediatric Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand is a division within the Academic Department of Surgery. It was founded in 1966 and operates clinical departments at two hospitals - the Johannesburg and the Chris Hani Baragwanath hospitals. The area serviced by the division includes the Johannesburg and Reef areas, the most populous part of the province of Gauteng - South Africa.
The units are serviced by staff with similar expertise and function in close association with each other. The staff are interchangeable and academically the two units are run as a single entity. Paediatric renal transplantation is only done at the Johannesburg Hospital. A Paediatric Burns Unit has recently been commissioned at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
