Teaching English to Young Learners

Are you passionate about teaching young learners?

The Teaching English to Young Learners (TEYL) course aims to provide teachers with the skills and knowledge required to teach English to young learners from the ages of 3 to 16 years. This is an online teaching specialisation course.

Course Fee

The course costs R6 250.

Duration

The course is online and is 6 weeks (40 hours)

Qualification

Participants who meet all minimum requirements for the course are awarded a certificate of competence. 

Programme Overview

The TEYL via Blended Learning covers everything typically done in the on-site course.

It is an add-on for experienced teachers looking to further their knowledge in teaching young learners. The course consists of an online theoretical component, videoed teaching practice (for which you will need your own students) and assignments.

Learning and Development of Young Learners; Language Acquisition; The Young Learner Classroom; Teaching Language to Young Learners; Young Learner Teacher’s Toolbox;  Resources and Materials (using & adapting coursebooks; designing materials); Assessing Young Learners; Professional Development for Teachers; Teaching practice.

Entry Requirements

Please ensure you meet the following requirements when applying for the course: 

  • Minimum 18 Years                             
  • Matric Certificate                                 
  • Proficiency in English (Assessed)                      
  • A Recognised TESOL/TEFL/CELTA Certificate (120 hours) OR a PGCE/B.Ed.
