TULU DIMTU

Tulu Dimtu is located in Akaki Kaliti sub-city, at the south eastern edge of the city of Addis Ababa. Located at the entry point of the express way from Addis to Adama – the first expressway to be built in Ethiopia – Tulu Dimtu possesses much potential. The area is connected to Megenagna, Goru, Lebu, and Kaliti, via the ring road. Different connecting roads, including to Bole International Airport, are planned between the site and Goru; industries are developing along this route. These big infrastructural projects will change the face of the area in the future.

The housing typology of the area is a mix of condominium houses the majority of the residents in the area; cooperative housing, which takes up the largest area; resettlement areas for evicted farmers and other residents; some old settlements; and informal settlements. Even though the construction for cooperative housing started long before Condominium Housing (IHDP), most are not yet completed and remain uninhabited, making this section of the area a large construction site.
