Master of Arts in Organisational Psychology

The Master of Arts in Organisational Psychology takes place over a single year period (full-time, no part-time option is offered), and aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge of advanced theoretical issues in applied psychology within an organisational context, together with the development of advanced analytical and reasoning skills.

Students are required to complete four compulsory modules:

  • Multivariate Research Design and Analysis
  • Advanced Organisational Theory
  • Engineering Psychology
  • Workplace Counselling and Assessment

In addition, students are required to complete a Research Report in a suitable area.

Persons who hold a Masters in Organisational Psychology are eligible for registration in the category Industrial Psychology with the Health Professions Council of South Africa, provided that they complete a suitable internship approved by the Professional Board of Psychology.

Applicants for the programme are invited to a shortlisting process and thereafter, selected on to the programme at the discretion of a Selection Panel, consisting of staff from the Department of Psychology. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to partake in selection exercises. Shortlisted candidates are invited to the shortlisting based on several criteria including (but not limited to) acceptable academic performance in an Organisational/Industrial Psychology Honours degree. The minimum requirement for academic performance in the Honours degree is 65%. Note that this mark is a minimum requirement and does not in any way guarantee final acceptance onto the programme. Final acceptance is provisionally based on several criteria including (but not limited to) performance on the selection exercises and previous academic performance.
