HI HOPES is the Early Intervention partner for families of deaf and hard-of-hearing babies. Hearing loss impacts all areas of development for babies, including language, socio-emotional, perceptual, cognitive and future academic performance. Early intervention is the key to typical development in all these areas.
2016 marked 10 years of HI HOPES partnering with SA families to bring early intervention to deaf and hard of hearing infants.
Every day, 17 babies are born with hearing loss in South Africa and this excludes the number of children who develop hearing-loss as a result of meningitis, ear infections or ototoxic medication.
