DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence in Mathematical and Statistical Sciences

What is a Centre of Excellence?

The National Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and the National Research Foundation (NRF) awarded the CoE-MaSS to be hosted at Wits University. The Centre has 12 active Focus Areas and these are re-engineered to complement changes in line with the Centre’s expertise, and with local and global research niches.

The CoE-MaSS brings together pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics researchers from 22 Node Institutions around South Africa to focus on advancing cross-disciplinary research topics and developing national capacity in these scarce fields.

The CoE for Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (CoE-MaSS) mandate relates to the following areas:
* Research
* Education and Training
* Information Brokerage
