Wits Students' Surgical Society

Founded in 2010 with the assistance of the Department of Surgery at the University of the Witwatersrand, the Wits Students’ Surgical Society is a platform for medical students and aspiring medical specialists in the art and science of surgery.

The society is a subcommittee of the Wits Medical Students Council (MSC) and is a member of the South African Society of Surgeons in Training (SASSiT).

Our core objectives are to:

  • Provide insight into a career of surgery
  • Gain valuable surgical skills
  • Collaborate with other surgical societies
  • Provide a platform for relationships to develop between students and surgeons

The society is well established and continues to grow and mature with every event. The committee actively works to provide members with events, activities and experiences that will enlighten and develop them as they pursue careers in surgery.
