Occupational Therapy Education Symposium

We are delighted for you to join us at our 80th Anniversary Celebration Symposium, from 5-6 July 2023!

We extend an invitation to all occupational therapy academics, students, and practitioners across the world to join our hybrid event, focused on critical discussions about occupational therapy education.

The topic for the symposium is "Occupational Therapy Education: Critical discourses on its past, present and future"

We are honored to host the following esteemed keynote speakers:

  • Prof Pat de Witt (Occupational Therapy in South African Context)
  • Prof Debbie Laliberte Rudman (Critical Occupational Therapy/Science)
  • Dr William Mpofu (Decoloniality and Liberation)

Themes of the symposium

The following sub-themes ensue from the Symposium theme, Occupational Therapy Education: Critical discourses on its past, present and future.

  1. Epistemic justice / freedom
  2. Fieldwork platform / clinical training
  3. Teaching methods / pedagogy
  4. Occupational therapy curriculum
  5. Decoloniality

We invite abstracts in these 5 sub-themes that reflect on how far we have come, where we are, and where we are going in occupational therapy education.

Call for abstracts

In true symposium style, we invite interested occupational therapists (clinician's and academics alike) and occupational therapy students to submit abstracts for review, aligned to the symposium themes.

Cost

Occupational therapists and academics within Africa: 

  • R1000 for both days. If you are attending in person, this includes the Symposium Cocktail event on 5 July 2023
  • If you are only attending one day, the cost is R500.  This excludes the Symposium Cocktail (R300 additionally).

Occupational therapy students and/or OTTs/OTAs within Africa:

  • R500 for both days, excluding the Symposium Cocktail (additional R300)
  • R250 for one day

International occupational therapists, academics and students: 

  • €60 for both days
  • €35 for one day only

Virtual or in-person attendance is possible, at the same cost.
