Call for Abstract

The Faculty of Humanities warmly invites early-career academics in the Faculty, including postdoctoral fellows, associate lecturers, lecturers, and senior lecturers, to submit abstracts for our upcoming Research and Innovation Day, themed:“Navigating Change: Humanities Research in a Transforming World”

This event aims to provide a vibrant platform to showcase innovative research and to imagine the futures of the Humanities. It is designed to foster collaboration across schools and disciplines, while highlighting the contributions of emerging scholars in the Faculty.

Presenters will also be invited to participate in a dedicated writing retreat before the end of the year to develop their presentations into full written contributions for publication in an accredited journal.

Presentations will be 15 minutes long, followed by 5 minutes of discussion. Abstracts should align with one of the following thematic groupings:

Mobility, Inequality and Social Justice

Possible contributions: migration and displacement, xenophobia and social cohesion, race, gender and diversity, disability and inclusion, labour and precarity, poverty and inequality, land and housing justice, community development, citizenship and belonging, social movements.

Knowledge, Education, Culture and Society

Possible contributions: curriculum transformation, multilingualism, literacy and teacher development, digital humanities and related fields (Plant Humanities, Blue Humanities, Environmental Humanities), media and journalism, public history and heritage, philosophy and knowledge systems, decolonisation, creative practice, literature and communication, archives and memory.

Technology, Health and Sustainable Futures

Possible contributions: mental health, public health systems, neuroscience, AI and society, digital innovation, educational technologies, climate change, energy transitions, critical minerals, smart cities, sustainability and resilience.
