Welcome to the participant information page for the GCRO Quality of Life 7 (2023/24) Survey
Every two to three years, the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) conducts a Quality of Life survey. This survey collects data on a wide range of issues affecting Gauteng residents, including transport, education, health, and social and economic attitudes. The data collected are used to better understand the needs of Gauteng’s residents.
The GCRO is a partnership of the Gauteng Provincial Government (GPG), the University of Johannesburg (UJ), the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits), and the South African Local Government in Gauteng (SALGA-Gauteng). Our aim is to collect data and research the social, economic, and environmental conditions in Gauteng.
Between September 2023 and March 2024, we are conducting our seventh survey – Quality of Life 7 Survey (2023/24) and will be interviewing over 13,500 adults (18+) across the Gauteng Province. Our aim is to conduct a minimum of 20 interviews in each of the 529 wards in the province. The company GeoSpace International is contracted to conduct the fieldwork on the GCRO’s behalf. The QoL 7 Survey (2023/24) was approved by Wits University’s Human Research Ethics Committee (Non-Medical) under protocol number H19/11/19.
Participants are randomly selected from each ward in the province to ensure that the survey provides an accurate image of life in Gauteng. If you are selected to participate, we will invite you to answer a questionnaire that will take approximately 45 minutes of your time.
