Wits students who participated in a national survey are happy with initiatives aimed at boosting their success in the world of work.
The survey conducted annually by Universum, broadly covered themes including university and brand perception, career services and communication, career and employer preferences. Over 6000 Wits students completed the survey which drew approximately 93 000 students nationwide. Participants rated their respective institutions.
To recognise the University’s performance, in particular the Counselling and Careers Development Unit (CCDU) which is responsible for supporting students with their professional aspirations and readiness for the world of work, has been awarded a certificate of recognition for outstanding reputation, institutional offering, culture and environment.
The certificates are designed to reward and acknowledge the work done by the University to ensure that the student experience is of the highest calibre.
Wits’ career development services team leader, Raj Naran says that the CCDU have for several years now collaborated with Universum in conducting the survey covering student perceptions of employers as well as important information about student perceptions of Wits.
“This information has been useful in helping us understand student needs and adapting our services to meet these needs. This award provides a positive picture of student perceptions of Wits,” he adds.
Universum spokesperson Kelebogile Motsa says the purpose of the survey is to help institutions understand student expectations and preferences of career services; compare between institutions and remedy areas of improvement.
“The feedback not only allows institutions to see what the students perceive but also gives a clear idea of what they expect from their university. Knowing what they expect for their careers also helps university career service departments in their efforts to prepare students for their successful professional lives,” she adds.
Universum say that they hope that this annual survey will serve as an ongoing reminder of the significance of student experience and satisfaction to universities.
Certificates of recognition are only presented to Universum’s official university partners who have met the minimum respondent and attribute threshold requirements.
