Archaeology honours

Archaeology is an integrative field that studies the diverse history of human culture and behaviour. Archaeologists at Wits are actively involved in research and the teaching of a broad spectrum of topics including Archaeological theory, Earlier Stone Age, Middle Stone Age, Later Stone Age, Iron Age, historical archaeology, achaeometry, excavation and field methods and rock art management.

The Honours Degree in Archaeology can be undertaken as a BA Hons Geography or a BSc Hons Geography. Both programmes have the same entry requirement, and have identical curricula. You can apply for the BSc Hons or the BA Hons with either a BA or BSc undergraduate. As a result, we encourage applicants to carefully consider which faculty is better suited to their future careers, and apply for either the BA Hons or BSc Hons, but not both.

If you would like guidance in this selection, you can contact the Honours coordinator, Prof. Alex Schoeman on Alex.Schoeman@wits.ac.za.
