About Us
Welcome to the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM) Student Chapter at the University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
Our Chapter is dedicated to sparking student interest in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Mathematics, Statistics, and Actuarial Science, while providing opportunities to develop leadership skills that prepare members for impactful careers.
Students in the Chapter engage with both emerging and persistent societal challenges within the most pressing global priorities of our time, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To address these challenges, the Cluster of Mathematical Sciences at Wits adopts a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary, and transdisciplinary research approach. Within this environment, students benefit from exposure to cutting-edge ideas and collaborative opportunities.
