Division of Haematology Oncology

Paediatric Haematology Oncology services are provided at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic and Charlotte Maxeke Academic hospitals. Together we are the largest service providers in southern Africa. We treat all the common childhood tumours- acute leukaemias, lymphoma, solid tumours (mainly Wilms tumours) as well as brain tumours.

Our patients are managed using internationally accepted guidelines and protocols adapted, where possible, for our South African setting. Our service also includes benign haematology. We see patients with sickle cell anaemia, haemophilia, aplastic anaemia, bleeding disorders, inherited bone marrow failure syndromes (such as Fanconi Anaemia) and haemolytic anaemias

We offer a consultatory service for general paediatrics and paediatric subspecialties, surgical, orthopaedic, and neonatal services.
