Mathematics Teacher Professional Development Submissions - Wits BEd and Honours Students

Submission deadline extended to 17 April 2025.

Presenters/Teachers are strongly encouraged to submit papers on “How I Teach”, showcasing their unique, innovative, and creative approaches to teaching a specific topic in either Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy.

  • Guidelines on the “How I teach” (30 minutes: 20 minutes presentation and 10 minutes discussion)
  • Length: Papers should be 1 to 4 pages.
  • Required Information:
  1. Title: A clear and descriptive heading for your paper (e.g., Teaching functions relationally).
  2. Name: Your full name.
  3. Organisation: The name of your school or institution.
  4. Phase: Specify the educational phase your paper is aimed at, i.e., Foundation, Intermediate, Senior, FET, or Tertiary.
  • Structure of the Paper:
  1. Introduction: Provide a brief overview of your topic, explaining why you chose it and what you will cover in your paper.
  2. Content: Share your experiences with the selected teaching approach, highlighting its advantages and any challenges you encountered.
  3. Conclusion: Summarise key insights and the impact of your approach on teaching and learning.
  4. References: Acknowledge any sources used, such as textbooks, articles, or online materials.

You are welcome to include additional headings (e.g., the role of relational understanding) as needed.

Pre-service students are encouraged to submit and present their in session micro-teaching projects.

NB: LOC is doing application for ethical clearance for Wits students to participate in the conference.
