FOUR BUILDING PORTRAITS

One of the main issue plaguing dense and popular inner cities, is the issue of decayed buildings with collapsed management (categorised in Johannesburg housing policy as "bad buildings"). Understanding the politics and governance of buildings in Yeoville, became the focus of a third year course for Planning and Politics students in 2011. Each group of students focused on one particular building, that had been identified with our Studio partners as representing a specific type of management: 

From their research reports, posters were produced to be debated and presented to community and public audiences. One group further produced a short video, entitled "Bad buildings", based on their case study and also including interviews with urban professionnals and local stakeholders.
