YEOVILLE STUDIO ON URBAN MEMORY

Yeoville Studio participated in academic events focused on the issue of urban memory and heritage - based on the theme "Urban Stories" coordinated by Sophie Didier and Naomi Roux. Both of them presented a paper in the 2011 conference on The Politics of Heritage, held in Johannesburg in Museum Africa.

Sophie Didier (IFAS), together with Natasha Erlank (U. of Johannesburg), Karen Morgan (U. of Johannesburg), Naomi Roux and Mfaniseni Sihlongonyane (Wits School of Architecture and Planning) also co-organised an international conference, "Memory in the City" in 2011 at Wits University, Johannesburg. Part of this conference was an exhibition of Yeoville Studio's item linked to Yeoville stories, as well as a live guided tour in Yeoville, based on the walking tour produced by the Studio and facilitated by Yeoville residents.

Sophie Didier continued to present and debate her reflection on questions of urban memories in international events, such as in the Association of American Geographers' conference (Los Angeles, 2013).
