Johannesburg Art Gallery excursion 2021

In 2021 the undergraduate programme engaged facilitators from Johannesburg Art Gallery to offer a research excursion for students. This excursion offered an entry point into the complex histories and contemporary engagement of the museum and its collection.
The facilitators of the workshops are practitioners who have worked closely with JAG through residency and internship programmes as well as JAG staff who have generously offered their time and insights to this programme.

Javett Art Centre – 13 October 2021

Excursions to museums, galleries, and cultural heritage sites are essential for the History of Art programme. This year, the History of Art undergraduate (second and third-year) excursion took place at the Javett Art Museum in Pretoria on 13 October.  Students were led on a tour of the museum’s current and permanent exhibitions, including “Interfacing New Heavens”, “Handle with Care”, and “Word Woes” where students were able to view many of the artworks discussed during the course of the programme.  Students were given a series of activities to complete in relation to the exhibitions they interacted with.
