Patricia McFadden at Diversity Studies

On 1 and 2 September 2026, WiCDS was privileged to host the inspirational feminist scholar Patricia McFadden. A writer, thinker, activist, intellectual and lifelong radical, McFadden is one of the most influential African feminists of our times. On 1 September she presented a SARChI Distinguished Lecture on the topic 'Becoming contemporary in the context of Southern Africa: Feminism and the alternative future', with respondents Leyya Hoosen and Gavaza Maluleke, and on 2 September she offered an intimate, conversational seminar to WiCDS postgraduates and other students.
These events were a collaboration between the DST-NRF SARChI Chair in Critical Diversity Studies and the Innovation Foundation for Democracy.
