Wits graduates making news in August 2019

Women’s month was an opportunity to acknowledge some of the many Wits women who are leading in their fields.

Dr Precious Moloi-Motsepe (MBBCh 1987) is the new Chancellor of the University of Cape Town. 

Mariam Cassim, chief officer of Vodacom’s financial services, was named Standard Bank Top Woman Achiever.

Nonkululeko Dlamini was chosen as public sector CFO of the year.            

Angela Mhlanga, Ann Leepile and Melanie de Nysschen were among the Mail & Guardian’s selection of women in banking and finance.

Boitumelo Semete-Makokotlela, Kwanele Asante, Sebasti Badenhorst, Nonhlanhla Vilakazi and Gaokgatlhe Tawane were in the M&G’s list of women in STEM.

Elizabeth Sidiropoulos was named in the education selection.

Michèle Ramsay was chosen as the 2019 South African Woman in Science in the category of distinguished researchers in natural and engineering sciences.

Linda Mateza was appointed CE of the Eskom pension and provident fund.           

Ellen Vuyiswa Blekie told The Weekly about her memories of the Women’s March, when she was a medical student.
