New ethics application system empowers research through software

- Wits University

Infonetica system will streamline applications for research ethics clearance.

The Wits Animal Research Ethics Committee (AREC) launched the new online application system, Infonetica, at the University on Monday, 20 October 2025.

Infonetica will roll out to the Human Research (Medical) and Human Research (Non-Medical) ethics committees in early 2026.

The new software system consolidates all research related workflows, information, and documents in one platform.

Researchers applying for ethics clearance need only enter their information once and they will be guided through every step of the research life cycle.

Streamlined ‘one-stop-shop’ system

The system not only streamlines the ethics application and review processes for researchers, but enables efficient automated operations, overview, and compliance by the University’s Research Office

Fit-for-purpose

Infonetica is designed specifically for research ethics applications and thus replaces the application system that runs via Wits Health Consortium (WHC).

Researchers with applications already in progress prior to the Infonetica launch on 20 October will still be able to complete their submission on the existing WHC portal – they need not reapply on Infonetica.
