- Wits University

Wits University is amongst the top 1 percent of universities globally for the quality of education and training offered to students.

Wits University is in the top 0.7 percent of leading universities in world, according to  the Center for World University Rankings (CWUR). Wits has held top position in Africa since 2014.

Wits came in at number 181 overall while other local universities ranked at 265 and 330.

The CWUR ranking independently measures universities’  quality of education, alumni employment, quality of academics, publications, and the number of international patents, amongst other indicators.

The National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU Ranking), known as the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities and released on 10 October, shows Wits climbing 22 places in this ranking.

The NTU Ranking is based exclusively on the quantitative and qualitative performance of scientific papers. In addition to an overall ranking, six fields and 14 selected subjects are assessed by the NTU.

Both these outstanding performances in rankings are on the backdrop of a consolidated effort by the University to increase research output in its pursuit to become the intellectual powerhouse of Africa.

Research output at Wits University has increased by 45 percent over the last four years, and over 85 percent of all publications are published in accredited international journals.

The University is in the process of developing a new research strategy, with new research priorities, in line with its vision to be a leading research institute locally and globally.
