Wits advances in scientific papers ranking

The latest university ranking indicates that Wits is on an upward trajectory, especially when it comes to research output.

Wits University has moved up 22 places overall in the latest National Taiwan University Ranking (NTU Ranking) also known as the Performance Ranking of Scientific Papers for World Universities. The NTU Ranking is based exclusively on the quantitative and qualitative performance of scientific papers. In addition to an overall ranking, six fields and 14 selected subjects are assessed by the NTU.

Wits was placed at 339 out of 800 top research institutions.

This ranking system uses data extracted from the Science Citation Index (SCI) and the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI) to evaluate the performances of scientific papers from leading research intensive universities.

Research output at Wits University has increased by 45% over the last four years and over 85% of all publications are published in accredited international journals.

The University is in the process of developing a new research strategy with new research priorities, in line with its vision to be a leading research institute locally and globally.
