Watch out for the two screenings on the 26 and 29 October at the Bioscope, Maboneng and Wits Theatre respectively.

Ubuhle is a documentary film directed and produced by two young black female filmmakers, Pretty Mangena and Mbali Mashaba, that is centered around the politics of beauty. it focuses on beauty standards and the ideologies that have defined these in and around the black community and how they are often linked to history and politics of survival. It is also in the work of decolonizing beauty documentary focuses on colorism, pretty privilege, make up, hair, the male gaze, and how these concepts have influenced beauty in the past and the present. A huge emphasis is placed on how mass media is constantly reinforcing beauty ideals.
 
  • The documentary screening of Ubuhle will take place on Friday the 26th of October 2018 at The Biscope in Maboneng at 17:30 for 18:00, seats are limited at the official screening therefore please RSVP at prettymangenaprm@gmail.com or luciammashaba@gmail.com.
  • There will also be a screening at the Wits Main Theatre on the 29th of October 2018 at 16:30 for 17:00 which will be followed by a panel discussion in which you can engage with the film, filmmakers and a panel.
