Inaugural Lecture of Professor Martin Smith
Professor Martin Smith will deliver his Inaugural Lecture
Title of lecture: How do HPB surgeons reconcile the concept of Global Surgery with our Sub Specialty? – We do so as members of the Community of Surgeons: A personal Journey.
About the lecture:
The role of the Surgeon in achieving Universal Health Coverage has always been challenging given the historical view that the surgeon focuses on the individual patient and not the broader public health issues. In Smith's professional and academic journey over the last 30 years, he has strived to align the concept of the surgical specialty with improving access to surgical care through service, advocacy and research. His inaugural lecture looks back at that journey and how he contributed to achieving his vision for both.
