“Of Commissions, Law and Evidence”

Kate Hofmeyr (BA Hons 2001, LLB 2003) is a respected member of the Johannesburg Society of Advocates and has been an advocate for 13 years. She clerked for former Chief Justice Chaskalson at the Constitutional Court and studied at Oxford University where she read for Bachelor of Civil Law and Master of Philosophy degrees. In her final year at Wits, she participated in the Jessup World Moot Court Competition in Washington DC, where she and Steven Bundlender (BA 2000, LLB 2002) competed against more than 50 countries. They won the competition, making it the first and only time an African university has won the prestigious contest. Hofmeyr has published articles in both domestic and international law journals. During her career at the Bar, Hofmeyr has appeared in more than 50 reported cases. Since 2018, she has been an evidence leader at the State Capture Commission. There, she has been responsible for the evidence of over 40 witnesses, including former ministers, directors-general, CEOs, CFOs, SOE board members and auditors.
