Join the Annual Botlhale Orenstein Memorial Lecture
This year, the Adler Museum of Medicine combined with the Wits Faculty of Health Sciences is hosting the Annual Botlhale Orenstein Memorial Lecture - cognisant of the #Wits100 celebrations and the history of mining and science and migration that forged our city, Johannesburg.
We are privileged to have Professor Himla Soodyall, one of the world's most esteemed genetic scientists and Secretary General of the Academy of Science of South Africa Council and a Wts alumna! speaking on the vital subject of African genetics and society, addressing issues of race and pseudoscience and other exciting research and discovery themes - with her inimical insight and humour and personal life journey illuminating this area of medical science.
As part of the efforts to embody the medical humanities, the event will be convened in the centre of the Health Sciences building on the ground floor - in the foyer and out into the hall in front of the Adler Museum; with the world-class Wits choir singing to us in with music that speaks to our city, our past and our aspirations.
After the lecture, we will close with special refreshments and a walk through the museum's On Breathing Exhibition.
