Governing Structures at Wits University

The Higher Education Act provides for the establishment of a Council, Senate, Student Representative Council and University Forum among other offices and structures, in all public higher education institutions. These are institutional governance structures with distinctive roles, which may be summarised as below.

Convocation Exco elects the University Chancellor, President of Convocation and 10 members of its own Exco
Centred Pillar
University Forum advises Council on all issues affecting the institution, including those listed in the Act.
