John Ndiritu graduated with a first class honours degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Nairobi in 1987. He returned back to the University of Nairobi as a tutorial fellow after spending one year as a design engineer with HP Gauff KG consulting Engineers. In 1993, he was awarded an MSc in Water Resources Engineering which included a research on reservoir storage-yield analysis. He enrolled at the University of Adelaide in 1994 and was awarded a PhD in 1998. The main thrust of the PhD was the improvement of the genetic algorithm method for hydrological model calibration. He has recently been working on reservoir system optimization and theapplication of nonparametric methods for synthetic streamflow generation.

J ohn Ndiritu has been working on water related projects and research for 24 years. His experience includes water distribution, flood hydrology, hydrologic modelling, integrated water resources systems planning and analysis and hydroinformatics.

His MSc was on storage-yield-reliability analysis methods and his PhD on the improvement of genetic algorithms for automatic calibration of hydrologic models. Since then he has mainly been researching on the optimisation of reservoir system design and operation with a special focus on the incorporation of uncertainties including the application of Bayesian statistics and fuzzy logic. He has also been researching on the application of nonparametric methods for stochastic hydrologic data generation.
