The Wits Chess Club is open to all Wits staff, students and alumni.

The WCC competes in the 1st Division of the Gauteng Chess League (2nd highest division), following promotion from the 2nd Division in 2010. Wits competes in the annual USSA (University Sports South Africa) National Championships which, will happen right here on Wits campus this year in December 2017.

A highlight for the club in recent years was our Evasan Chettiar and Seadimo Tlale representing SA at the 13th World University Championships (WUC) chess tournament in Katowice, Poland in August 2014.
