Our distinguished alumni have been selected to participate in the 61st Venice Biennale: In Minor Keys by Koyo Kouoh. The 61st International Art Exhibition of LaBiennale di Venezia, In Minor Keys by Koyo Kouoh, - which will run from Saturday 9 May to Sunday 22 November 2026 at the Giardini, the Arsenale and in various locations around Venice. The pre-opening will take place on May 6, 7, and 8, while the awards ceremony and inauguration will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2026.
The International Jury will be announced in April. The Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement will not be awarded this year, as Koyo Kouoh was unable to finalize them.
After the premature passing of Koyo Kouoh in May 2025, with the full support of her family, La Biennale di Venezia decided to carry out her Exhibition, with the purpose of preserving, enhancing and widely disseminating her ideas and the work she pursued with such dedication to the very end.
Koyo Kouoh, nominated as the Artistic Director of the Visual Arts Department in November 2024, already developed the curatorial project, defining its theoretical framework, selecting the artists and the artworks, designating the authors of the catalogue, determining the graphic identity of the Exhibition and the architecture of the exhibition spaces, and establishing a dialogue with the artists invited to participate.

Congratulations to Gabrielle Goliath on her independent exhibition of the acclaimed performance work Elegy, presented in Venice during the Biennale.
The exhibition will open on Tuesday 5 May through Friday 31 July 2026, then move to Ibraaz in London, from October 2026.
The artist Gabrielle Goliath, whose South Africa Pavilion exhibition at the 2026 Venice Biennale was cancelled by the South Africa Ministry for Sport, Arts and Culture, will now show the planned work, Elegy, independently of the Biennale at Chiesa di Sant’Antonin in Castello, Venice.

The South African film "God’s Work" marks a milestone as it will have its Middle East and North Africa premiere in the Long Film Competition at the 15th Luxor African Film Festival in Egypt, taking place from March 30 to April 5.
Directed and written by Michael James and produced by Sithabile Mkhize, the film tells the story of a group of unhoused men seeking refuge in a crumbling building. As they struggle with life on the streets, their dreams and haunted memories blur the line between reality and illusion.
Lesego Vorster appointed Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres

A journey between creation and transmission
GOBELINS Paris warmly congratulates Lesego Vorster, a graduate of the Master’s degree in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking (class of 2018), who was recently named Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres on March 5.
Born and raised in Diepkloof, Soweto, Lesego Vorster discovered a passion for drawing at an early age, which later evolved into a multidisciplinary artistic practice. After studying Fine Arts at the University of the Witwatersrand, he pursued animation and joined the first international cohort of the Animation Master’s degree in Character Animation and Animated Filmmaking at GOBELINS Paris in 2016.
