New General Secretary Appointed by International Alliance of Waste Pickers

Kabir Arora (Qabeer Jalandhari) appointed as General Secretary of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers
The Executive Council of the International Alliance of Waste Pickers (IAWP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kabir Arora (Qabeer Jalandhari) as its General Secretary.
The appointment was made following a recruitment process run by the HR Committee set up by the Executive Council.
Kabir has been working with the IAWP since its establishment at the end of 2022 and brings a wealth of experience of working in solidarity with waste pickers to his new role.
Welcoming Kabir on behalf of the Executive Council was Severino Lima Jr, President of the IAWP, on 27 June 2024.
About Kabir Arora (Qabeer Jalandhari)
Kabir attained his Bachelors of Arts (Hons.) Geography from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, and his Masters in Public Policy from National Law School of University, Bengaluru. Currently, he is doing a Ph.D. from the School of Geography, Archaeology and Environment Studies, Faculty of Sciences, University of the Witwatersrand. Kabir's Ph.D. is focused on the home as a place of work in the lives of waste-pickers in Bangalore. Since, 2014, he has coordinated the Alliance of Indian Waste-pickers, a national network of waste-pickers organizations in India. He has been a part of the support team coordinating the Global Alliance of Waste-pickers.
