Witsies, You brought the gees!
- Wits University
Not even the Joburg rain could dampen the Wits spirit as students, staff and alumni celebrated Wits Day.

Witsies showed up in numbers, brought the energy and filled the streets of Braamfontein with gees despite the cold and rainy weather on Friday, 4 September.
The weather, uncharacteristic for the first week of September, was no match for a Wits community that had been preparing for weeks to enjoy the annual event. Umbrellas and raincoats were out, but most visible was the Wits pride on full display.
Wits Day is a multi-event affair, beginning with the Wits Parade, followed by the Staff Fun Day and a student concert.
Music, dancing and sharing food were the order of the day at the Staff Fun Day. Although waterlogged sports fields prevented the outdoor sporting activities from taking place, the fun continued with indigenous board games, e-sports and other activities.
Wits Day was established in 2022 as part of the University’s Centenary celebrations. Since then, it has become a firm favourite on the Wits calendar - a welcome burst of energy following winter that brings the University community together.
In full Wits glory, staff and students march and dance through Braamfontein to the sounds of brass bands and music, holding banners high and proudly representing their faculties, schools, departments and other University communities.
Thank you Witsies, you make Wits and keep our community strong!
