Parents’ Day an extension of support during critical moments

Wits welcomed parents and prospective students to its first-ever Parents Day, offering insights into the institution's diverse programmes.
The Wits School Liaison Office (SLO) hosted its inaugural Parents' Day, designed to introduce parents to the wide range of faculties and programmes at Wits University.
The event, held on 7 September 2024 at Wits, allowed parents to engage with academic staff, participate in faculty activities, and take part in a campus tour, providing them with a comprehensive experience of the Wits environment, where their children can thrive and benefit from many opportunities.
Choosing an academic home is determined by many factors such as the quality of education and teachers, safety, proximity to home and other factors which are sometimes driven by excitement and personal desires to be away from home.
One parent, who attended the event with her daughter, shared her thoughts, “We appreciated the information provided by Wits. My daughter now has a clearer idea of what she wants to study. It was such a wonderful day to spend at this institution, as it gave us a new perspective. We are now more interested and ready to support our daughter in pursuing whichever profession she chooses.”
Wits’ Deputy Vice-Chancellor and former Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment, Professor Ian Jandrell, stressed the need to prioritise academic excellence in decision-making and an environment that promotes global citizens.
“This University will shape you into a leader. At Wits, we stand for excellence, and we do not compromise on it because we refuse to compromise on the future of our country. When you choose Wits, you are choosing excellence.”
He also encouraged parents to support their children in making informed decisions as they embark on the important journey of selecting their courses and future academic paths.
