The Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology is pleased to announce the launch of a dedicated vaccination service for all qualifying students within the Faculty of Health Sciences. This initiative is part of our ongoing commitment to student health and compliance with programme requirements.

What am I being vaccinated against?

You will receive a booster shot of the MMR vaccine.

Who is eligible for vaccination?

Any FHS student who has not yet received an MMR booster vaccine. Please note, this is a requirement as part of your degree programme. Please check with your degree co-ordinator regarding the specific requirements for your degree.

Do I require a hepatitis B vaccination?

As part of the revised vaccination strategy implemented in 2024, students who have received their routine childhood Hepatitis B vaccinations are not required to receive any booster doses. Please ensure that your vaccination records are up to date and available if requested.

May I opt to go to a private provider to receive the vaccination

Yes, you may opt to receive the MMR booster from a private healthcare provider. However, you will be required to pay the provider upfront for the service and must ensure that you retain an official record or proof of vaccination for submission to the university.

Costs Involved
Do I have to pay for the vaccination?

The cost of the vaccination will be automatically charged to your student fee account and reflected on your fees statement. You will not be required to pay up front on the day

When can I get vaccinated?

Vaccinations are available on the date of your scheduled appointment.

What are the available appointment times?

Appointment slots are available based on the booking link. Once booked, the time slot will no longer appear.

How do I schedule an appointment?

You are required to book your vaccination by clicking here

How do I cancel an appointment?

You are required to cancel any bookings using the same link used to make the booking- with a valid reason at least 24 hours prior to the booking date.

What additional information should I include in my email if I have any problems?

Please provide your full name, student number, mobile number, degree program, and year of study and a detailed description of the issue.

What should I bring on the day of my appointment?

Your mobile phone with access to Wits WiFi.

Why do I need my mobile phone?

You will need to complete an online consent form, a medical history form (guidance will be provided), and a fee authorization form.

Where will the vaccinations take place?

Vaccinations will be administered at the Simulation Pharmacy in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmacology, located on the 8th floor of Wits Medical School. Directions to the Simulation Pharmacy will be placed at the lifts on the 3rd, 4th and 8th floor.

What will happen on the day of my vaccination?
  • Arrive 10 minutes prior to your appointment time.
  • The pharmacist will verify your appointment and provide instructions for accessing the digital forms.
  • After completing the forms, you will be taken to a private area for the vaccination.
  • The healthcare professional administering the vaccine will briefly explain what to expect post-vaccination before proceeding.
  • After the vaccination, you will be asked to sit in a waiting area for 15 minutes for observation.
