Social development in times of COVID-19: What have we learnt?
COVID-19 pandemic has caused economic and social disruptions that has seen several organisations and governments starting to build resilient systems to guard against future shocks. The pandemic has forced between 40 and 60 million more people into extreme poverty, especially in low- and middle-income countries where the death toll continues to rise. The persistence of the pandemic results in continued lockdown periods and increased socio-economic and health costs.
This lecture will focus on the lessons learnt within the global, African, and South African contexts regarding social development practice in times of COVID-19.
