Webinar | From Measurement to Markets: Operationalising Lifecycle Accounting for a Circular Economy and Market-Based Mechanisms

The Mandela Institute invites you to a webinar exploring how lifecycle accounting is driving the transition to low-carbon and circular economies.

Presented by Dr Pia Rebelo, this session will examine how Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) frameworks are being applied across sectors such as aviation and maritime, and how they support emerging market-based mechanisms, including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) certificates, insetting models, and book-and-claim systems.

Using practical examples, the webinar will demonstrate how lifecycle data is enabling more effective climate action, strengthening environmental accountability, and supporting integrated decarbonisation strategies. Key challenges relating to data quality, methodology, and market credibility will also be considered.

Dr Pia Rebelo is an admitted South African attorney and Senior Lecturer in Private Law at The City Law School, City St George's, University of London. Alongside her academic role, she works with the decarbonisation team at international shipping firm Stephenson Harwood LLP, where she advises on regulatory frameworks and contractual solutions supporting the transition to net zero.
