Wits and the Walter & Albertina Sisulu Foundation present “Half a Century, Half a Promise”.

The Walter & Albertina Sisulu Foundation for Social Justice, in partnership with the University of the Witwatersrand, invites the public to a thought-provoking national conversation titled “Half a Century, Half a Promise.” This seminar in reflection marks fifty years since 1976, a pivotal moment in South Africa’s history and looks ahead to the next fifty years of possibility, responsibility, and transformation.

Hosted at Origins Centre at Wits on 25 May 2026, the event will bring together voices across generations to reflect on the legacy of youth activism, the realities facing young South Africans today, and the collective duty to shape a more just future. The keynote address will be delivered by Lindiwe Sisulu, offering insight into the ongoing journey toward social justice and equality.

This timely dialogue challenges us to consider what has been achieved, what remains undone, and what must be done now to honour the promise of freedom for generations to come.
