Unmuting Conversations: Wits Writing Festival, October 27-31

The Wits Writing Programme presents the 2025 Wits Writing Festival: Unmuting Conversations. Join us at the Reading and Writing Centre, Wartenweiler Library, and at the Humanities Graduate Centre. 

Highlights include at 13.00 on October 27, poetry for pleasure with Robert Berold, on October 28, storytelling with Dr Nomsa Mdalose, film and poetry from Shelley Barry and a performance by the Unmute Dance Company. On October 29th enjoy poetry in African languages, a workshop from Diana Ferrus, the music video launch of Khoi Kemati , a discussion about the future of festivals, book launches, and Altazor performed by Césaire Youth. Thursday October 30 focusses on university voices with Majesty Mnyandu’s story telling, the VITS project, libraries as Palaces of the People, writing in the Wits Doctoral Academy, a translanguaging workshop, Writing Fellow reflections, and a chance to write an Afriku. We finish on Friday with the launch of Elleke Boehmer’s Ice Shock, and the chance to consult with visiting WAC expert, Martha Townsend.
