Re-imagining Smart African Cities: Concepts, Practices and Implementation.
The African Centre for the Study of the United States (ACSUS) at Wits University is pleased to announce the upcoming Africa-US Smart Cities Lab, taking place from 20–22 August 2025.
Hosted at Wits, the Lab will bring together over 120 participants from government, academia, international organisations, and the private sector. It will focus on smart city policy, governance, digital infrastructure, sustainability, and innovation—drawing on African and US expertise.
Confirmed partners include the African Development Bank, Microsoft, Sister Cities International, SALGA, Waterfall City, and Charter Cities International, among others. A special Urban20 session will align the Lab with South Africa’s hosting of the G20 Summit in November 2025.
Wits staff are encouraged to participate, attend, or support this flagship event that highlights our university’s role in shaping Africa’s urban future
